Promenade autour du littoral du cap d'Antibes

On ne s'en lasse pas: le tour du Cap, en voiture ou à pied le long du littoral est un vrai plaisir, on peut en faire le tour  sans pratiquement quitter la mer des yeux. Bien sûr lorsqu'on évoque le Cap d'Antibes on pense aux résidences pour milliardaires cachées derrière leurs clôtures et leur pins parasol, mais c'est aussi un littoral jonché de criques, de falaises ou il fait bon se promener et se baigner. Le tour du littoral prend deux heures: Aller jusqu'au parking de la Garoupe et garez-vous, ou peut-être avez-vous marché? De là, dirigez-vous vers la dernière plage privée Chez Joseph et prenez le chemin au bord de l'eau à gauche.

 Les falaises et certaines criques profondes surprennent, le paysage devient plus farouche. Le sentier de douaniers est inégal et parfois lorsque le Mistral souffle, des coups de mer viennent vous mouiller les pieds.                                                               

J'ai grandi avec ses images, mes grands-parents avaient une vieille bastide "Le Bastidon" au chemin de l'Ermitage au Cap et pour moi, c'est un endroit enchanté. L’accès au littoral pour le public a été une bataille et l'est toujours par endroit, mais profitez-en. Vous pouvez visiter la Villa Eilen Roc en semaine, avec son parc magnifique et ses roseraies, c'est maintenant la propriété de la Ville d'Antibes.
Pour revenir, marchez à l’intérieur des terres sur un chemin bordé de hauts murs, le "sentiers des douaniers", suivez l'avenue Beaumont puis prenez la jolie avenue de la Tour Gandolphe qui vous ramènera au parking.

I cannot get enough - the Cap d'Antibes shoreline, on foot or in a car, is mesmerizing, your eyes almost never leave the water. Usually, when talking about the Cap d'Antibes, what comes to mind are the sumptuous villas hidden behind their stone walls and the gorgeous pine trees shaped like parasols, but it is also a beautiful coastline hike - the many small, deep coves along the way providing spots to picnic or swim in the clear water.

The tour takes around 2 hours including the walk back. Park your car at the Garoupe parking or if you're courageous, walk there from Antibes. Go to the last private beach at the Garoupe, called Chez Joseph, then follow the trail along the water. Although the path is well maintained, the walk is not a Sunday stroll - the path runs up and down rugged low cliffs and twists sharply around the coves. When the Mistral is blowing, your feet will get wet.

I grew up with the images you see here - my grandparents lived in an old bastide on the Cap, “Le Bastidon de l'Ermtage”. So, for me the coastline is enchanting and always will be. Easy access to the littoral for the public as been a long fight – the adjacent property owners wishing to keep it for themselves, but it still there for you to enjoy. While on the Cap one can also visit the Villa Eilenroc, (now the property of the city of Antibes) and wander among its 1000 roses.

To return to the parking, walk inland on le Sentiers des Douaniers, follow the avenue Beaumont to the avenue de la Tour Gandolphe and you will end up back at the Garoupe parking. Wear good walking shoes – sneakers preferably.
